Jill Obelleiro concluded one of the greatest careers by a player in Napa Valley College women’s golf history, tying for ninth place individually on Monday at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships in Nipomo (San Luis Obispo County).
After starting out the two-day, 36-hole season-ending tournament on Sunday with a 7-over-par 78, Obelleiro, a sophomore, played her final round for the Storm, carding a 10-over-par 81, good for a top-10 finish at Monarch Dunes Golf Club.
Obelleiro’s two-day total of 159 led Napa Valley, a member of the Big 8 Conference, to a ninth-place team finish. She was tied for 11th place in the first round.
“I definitely had a fun time on the team for the last two years,” said Obelleiro. “(Bob Freschi) is just a great coach; just always is making sure that we're having fun. So, I really enjoyed that. And the girls, they're incredible.”
Obelleiro completed her round, getting up and down from off the green and making a par-saving putt from 12 feet on No. 18. It was her final hole of the day.
“She was ecstatic,” Storm head coach Bob Freschi said. “It was really impressive.

NVC women’s golf fourth at Northern California Regional, advances to state
On Monday, Napa Valley had rain and cold temperatures, a powerful combination that had the par-72, 5,612-yard course at Wildhorse Golf Club in Yolo Country playing even more difficult in the second round of the 2024 California Community College Athletic Association-Northern California Regional Women’s Golf Championships. The field played from the blue/white tee markers.
It’s the first time that the NVC team has played in the rain.
