Napa Valley College baseball has winning streak end with loss to College of Marin

The Napa Valley College baseball team had its winning streak end as the Storm lost at home on Tuesday to College of Marin-Kentfield, 13-5.

It was the first game of a three-game Bay Valley Conference series.

The loss snapped Napa Valley's six-game winning streak.

The Storm (7-18 overall, 6-1 Bay Valley Conference) was held to five hits and left 10 runners on base.

Napa Valley walked nine times and struck out nine times.

Each team had three errors.

Dominick Garcia was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Storm.

Napa Valley scored its first run in the seventh inning. The Storm scored four runs in the ninth inning.

College of Marin went ahead 13-0, scoring five runs in the fourth inning, six runs in the fifth inning, and two runs in the sixth inning.

Napa Valley, College of Marin (16-9-1 overall, 6-1 Bay Valley) and Los Medanos College-Pittsburg (14-11 overall, 6-1 Bay Valley) are tied for first place in the conference.

Owen Nelson was 1-for-2, Wyatt Smith was 1-for-4 and scored a run, Myles Gray was 1-for-2, and Ethan Boatman was 1-for-2 and scored a run.

Shosei Tatsuno, Connor Ray and Hibiki Kodama each scored a run.

Connor Ulm drove in a run and Tatsuno had a stolen base.

Carson Goss started for NVC and went four innings, facing 19 batters. Goss allowed five hits and five runs (four earned), and struck out three. Joel Gapusan pitched two-thirds of an inning and Sam Anderson pitched 2 1/3 innings.

Alex Frank finished up for NVC, throwing two shutout innings and not allowing a hit. Frank walked two and struck out two.

Ray scored in the seventh inning when Ulm reached base on an infield error.

In the ninth inning, Kodama scored when Tatsuno reached base on an infield error, Boatman scored on an infield error, and Garcia's two-run double drove in Smith and Tatsuno.

Leading College of Marin was Caden Sta Maria, who was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs; Wyatt Davis, who was 2-for-5 with three RBIs; and Logan Fiene, who was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.

Charles Veley started and pitched six shutout innings, facing 24 batters, allowing three hits, walking four and striking out five.

Game 2 of the series is Thursday, March 27 at College of Marin at 2 p.m.
