NVC women's basketball falls behind early, loses at Cabrillo

The Napa Valley College women's basketball team fell behind early and lost in a nonconference game to host Cabrillo College-Aptos, 65-41, on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Napa Valley (2-4 overall) was behind 28-13 in first quarter and 41-22 at halftime.

The Storm, which has lost three straight, shot 22.8 percent from the floor (13-of-57) and 12.0 percent from the 3-point line (3-of-25).

The Storm was a perfect 100 percent, going 12-of-12, at the free-throw line.

Napa Valley was led by Kamilah Tiongco, with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Jazmine Fontilla, with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, along with four rebounds and three assists.

Marticia Pollard scored six points on 3-of-6 shooting and had seven rebounds.

Also, scoring for the Storm was Rose Jamison (four points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots), Ashley Torres (two points, two rebounds, three steals), and Arianna Aguilar (two points, three rebounds, two assists).

Also, playing for the Storm was Helena White (seven rebounds), Deena Sharqawi and Teira Greenwood.

Cabrillo (5-2 overall), a member of the Coast-South Conference which has won five straight), had four players score in double figures.

It was Gabby Brooks with 15 points, Jess Berry and Faith Esquer with 12 points each, and Sydney Chesnut with 10 points.

Cabrillo shot 40.0 percent from the floor (26-of-65), 32.3 percent from the 3-point line (10-of-31), and 42.9 percent from the free-throw line (3-of-7).

Napa Valley is at home on Tuesday, Dec. 3 for a nonconference game against Hartnell College-Salinas at 3 p.m.
