Sanchez, Thompson-Rangel lead Napa Valley College women's soccer team in 8-0 win

Annie Sanchez and Thais Thompson-Rangel each scored three goals and Leila Newberry scored two goals to power the host Napa Valley College women's soccer team to an 8-0 Bay Valley Conference win over Mendocino College-Ukiah on Friday, Oct. 25.

It was a hat trick for both Sanchez, a sophomore forward, and Thompson-Rangel, a freshman midfielder.

It was the sixth win of the fall season for Napa Valley (6-2 overall, 6-2 Bay Valley), which also registered its second shutout.

The high-scoring Napa Valley team now has 36 goals on the season, an average of 4.50 goals per game.

It was the final match of the regular season for the Storm, which is 3-1 at home this season.

The Bay Valley has a tournament, from Oct. 29 to Nov. 8, following the regular season.

Napa Valley was in front at halftime, 2-0. The Storm went on a scoring spree in the second half, connecting for six goals.

Newberry, Sanchez and Phoebe Arbabaraghi, a freshman forward, each had two assists for Napa Valley.

Sanchez had both of the Storm's first-half goals.

She scored at the 20-minute mark on an assist from Newberry, a freshman midfielder.

She also scored at the 40-minute mark, with the assist going to Amy Alfaro-Vega, a sophomore forward.

Thompson-Rangel scored her first goal of the game at the 50th minute of the second half. The assist went to Arbabaraghi.

Sanchez scored in the 60th minute, with the assist going to Newberry.

Thompson-Rangel scored in the 70th minute, with the assist credited to Arbabaraghi.

Newberry scored for the Storm in the 75th minute. The assist went to Sanchez.

Newberry had an unassisted goal in the 80th minute.

Thompson-Rangel had the Storm's final goal, coming in the 85th minute. The assist went to Sanchez.
