NVC women's golf finishes eighth, as rain shortens state championship to 18 holes

Monday's final round of the 2025 California Community College Athletic Association State Women's Golf Championships at the River Course at Alisal, in Solvang (Santa Barbara County) was canceled due to rain and unplayable conditions.
Originally scheduled as a two-day, 36-hole event, it was "shortened to just the opening 18 holes due to relentless rain that made the golf course unplayable," the California Community College Athletic Association said in a report, at www.cccaasports.org, on Nov. 17.
The first round of the state tournament was played on Sunday, Nov. 16.
The River Course at the Alisal is a par-72, 5,710-yard layout.
There was a field of 64 players, competing for both team and individual honors.
Napa Valley College was in the state championship for the second straight year. The Storm finished in third place in the Big 8 Conference. They took third place at the California Community College Athletic Association-Northern California Regional Championships last week at Madera Golf and Country Club.
Napa Valley finished in eighth place, with a 363-team score, at the state championship.
Leading and placing for Napa Valley:
* Libby Webb, with an 84, tying for 19th place.
* Kylee Scroggs, with an 87, tying for 29th place.
Also, placing for the Storm:
* Hanna Ruggles, 91, tie for 37th place.
* Rylie Olmo, 101, tie for 54th place.
* Hazel Zastrow, 103, 57th place.
* Loret Osorio, 107, 61st place.
Orange Coast College-Costa Mesa and Reedley College were tied for the lead, each with 323-team scores, in Round 1.
Orange Coast College, according to a report from the CCCAA, "won the title by way of a fifth-player card-off with a team score of 323, equaling the score set by Reedley College."
Modesto Junior College was third with a 324-team score.
College of the Canyons-Santa Clarita was fourth, with a 344-team score.
Mt. San Antonio College-Walnut was fifth, with a 352-team score.
Sierra College-Rocklin and Santa Barbara City College tied for sixth place, each with 361-team scores.
In ninth place was Allan Hancock College-Santa Maria, 368-team score.
The CCCAA reported:
"Day 2 saw 9:30 a.m. tee times delayed as an intense weather system made its way through the Solvang area. With talks of weather letting up a bit, every effort was made to resume play in some sort of fashion, but in the end, the course was deemed unplayable after three-plus days of rainfall. Once the tournament was stopped, another downpour ensued, confirming the right decision was made."
Orange Coast won the Orange Empire Conference title and last week won the Southern California Regional championship.
Tessa Hernandez of Reedley and Sahya Kitabatake from College of the Canyons were tied for the individual first-round lead, each with even-par 72's.
Low medalist honors went to Hernandez, who won in a card-off over Kitabatake, the CCCAA said in a report.
Named to the 2025 All-State Team, according to the report, was Tessa Hernandez of Reedley, Sahya Kitabatake of Canyons, Alyssa Quilao of San Joaquin Delta-Stockton, Sydney Streeter of Modesto,
Aidie Smith of Santa Barbara City, and Sofia Ingle of Orange Coast.
