Five players score in double figures as NVC women's basketball continues its winning ways

Five players scored in double figures as the host Napa Valley College women's basketball team continued its winning ways, beating Diablo Valley College-Pleasant Hill, 83-32, in a nonconference game on Saturday.
Arianna Aguilar led the Storm (6-2 overall) to its fourth straight win, scoring 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field, with two 3-pointers. Aguilar also had four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Ashley Torres and Jazmine Fontilla each scored 13 points.
Torres was 5-of-9 shooting from the field.
Fontilla also had seven assists and three steals.
Marticia Pollard had 11 points, going 4-of-8 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 at the free-throw line. Pollard also had nine rebounds.
Jazelle Bolton had 10 points, going 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Bolton also had three rebounds.
Napa Valley had five 3-pointers and was 14-of-22 from the free-throw line.
Napa Valley was ahead 15-12 at the end of the first quarter and was in the lead at halftime, 28-18.
The Storm erupted in the second half, scoring 27 points in the third quarter, followed by a 28-point fourth-quarter explosion.
The Storm got additional scoring in the game from:
Layla Butler, with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field; Janelle Harding, with five points; and Briana Alday, with four points.
Ten players scored in the game for NVC.
Butler also had five rebounds, eight assists and four steals.
Alday also had three assists.
Harding also had three rebounds.
Amiyah Murry had 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots.
Napa Valley shot 47.1 percent from the field (32-of-68), 45.5 percent from the 3-point line (5-of-11), and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line (14-of-22). The Storm had 45 rebounds, 24 assists, 19 steals and two blocked shots.
Napa Valley will host the fifth annual Storm Surge, a preseason women's basketball invitational tournament, Dec. 11, 12 and 13.
It's an eight-team field, with 12 nonconference games being played during the tournament over the three days.
Also, in the field is College of the Canyons-Santa Clarita, Diablo Valley College-Pleasant Hill, Los Medanos College-Pittsburg, Porterville College, Rio Hondo College-Whittier, San Jose City College and College of the Siskiyous-Weed.
It's an eight-team bracketed tournament, with each team guaranteed three games.
In first-round games, on Thursday, Dec. 11:
* Los Medanos College and San Jose City College meet at 1 p.m.
* Porterville College and Napa Valley meet at 3 p.m.
* College of the Canyons and Diablo Valley College play at 5 p.m.
* College of the Siskiyous and Rio Hondo College play in the final game of the day at 7 p.m.
Second-round games on Friday, Dec. 12 start at 12, 2, 4 and 6 p.m.
Final-round games on Saturday, Dec. 13 start at 10 a.m., 12, 2 and 4 p.m.
Awards will be presented to the Most Valuable Player and those on the All-Tournament Team. Additional awards will go to the tournament champion, second- and third-place teams, consolation champion, and the coach of the tournament champion.
