By MARTY JAMES martyjames.sports@gmail.com
Last year’s Napa Valley College women’s basketball team has been honored for its work in the classroom, with the Storm being recognized nationally by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association for its grade point average.
Napa Valley ranks among the top community college teams in the country for carrying one of the highest GPAs, with the Storm earning a spot on the 2024-25 WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls, as announced on July 22 by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, in a report, at wbca.org.

NVC’s Pepito ties for seventh, DeBellis ties for 37th at CCCAA State Championships
The 2025 men’s golf season for Napa Valley College came to an end on Monday with the Storm’s Lawrence Pepito tying for seventh place and Nick DeBellis tying for 37th place at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships in Seaside (Monterey County).
Playing at the par-72, 6,940-yard Bayonet Golf Course, Pepito shot 73-80 – 153 and DeBellis shot 81-78 – 159.
There was both team and individual play in the two-day, 36-hole tournament, which had a field of 68 players.
“So very proud of both of them, and what they got to experience here at the states,” Napa Valley head coach Bob Freschi said. “They competed for a state championship. They were both talking (Sunday) night, they're both in it to win it. So, that's what I like to hear.

Napa Valley College’s Lawrence Pepito started out the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships in spectacular fashion on Sunday, firing a 1-over-par 73 at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside (Monterey County), and is tied for third place, just three shots off the lead.
Pepito, a sophomore, had four birdies on his card, as he positioned himself on the leaderboard in Round 1 of the state’s season-ending tournament.
“Great round by Lawrence,” Storm coach Bob Freschi said. “Lawrence was striping it well.”
It’s on to the state men’s golf finals for Napa Valley College’s DeBellis, Pepito
The more and more that Nick DeBellis plays Bayonet Golf Course, the more that he falls in love with the par-72, 6,940-yard layout on the Monterey Peninsula.
DeBellis, a sophomore at Napa Valley College, has a comfortability and confidence to his game when he is playing the course. He is able to relax and enjoy the day and the surroundings as he goes about his business of hitting different shots and taking on all the challenges that the course presents.
