NVC women’s basketball suffers third straight loss to start Bay Valley Conference season
The Napa Valley College women’s basketball team lost its third straight game to start the Bay Valley Conference season, falling to host Merritt College-Oakland, 71-70, on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
Arianna Aguilar scored a season-high 26 points with six 3-pointers, to lead the Storm (11-5 overall, 0-3 Bay Valley Conference). Aguilar was 9-of-19 shooting from the field, 6-of-10 shooting from 3-point distance, and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. She also had four rebounds.
It was the second straight overall loss for Napa Valley.
Injuries continuing to take a toll on NVC men’s basketball
Coach Steve Ball is hoping that one of these days he will go into a game with his entire team, that everyone will be healthy and ready to go.
“We need the chemistry to get back to where it was. It's hard when, every other game, somebody's missing,” said Ball. “It's just frustrating in that way for me, because the best ability is availability.
Very challenging week ahead with three games for NVC women’s basketball
Arianna Aguilar said there is work that the Napa Valley College women’s basketball team – which is off to an 0-2 start in the Bay Valley Conference – has to get done in advance of a very challenging week. The returning sophomore guard is ready to get back in the gym – ready to rally and motivate her teammates, ready to do all she can to try and get the Storm back on track with a lot of season still to go.
NVC women's basketball No. 14 in latest CCCWBCA North Region Poll
Napa Valley College is No. 14 in the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association North Region Poll, which was announced in a report on Dec. 23 by the California Community College Athletic Association, at www.cccaasports.org.
The Storm (10-3 overall, 0-1 Bay Valley Conference) received additional recognition with votes in the CCCWBCA State Poll, which is led by No. 1 Mt. San Antonio College-Walnut (15-1 overall).
Napa Valley was one of 11 teams also receiving votes.
It’s the third poll of the 2025-26 season.
Fontilla’s first-quarter scoring charge leads NVC women’s basketball in win over Lassen
Jazmine Fontilla got the Napa Valley College women’s basketball team going early on in a nonconference game on Tuesday, Dec. 30, scoring 13 points in the first quarter, and the Storm went on to beat visiting Lassen College-Susanville, 84-51.
Fontilla scored 19 points, leading the Storm (11-3 overall, 0-1 Bay Valley Conference) in a decisive victory.
NVC men’s basketball loses Bay Valley Conference opener to College of Marin
Three players scored in double figures, but the Napa Valley College men’s basketball team lost its Bay Valley Conference opener, falling on Dec. 18 to College of Marin, 93-66, in Kentfield.
The loss was the second in a row for the Storm (4-9 overall, 0-1 Bay Valley).
NVC women’s basketball No. 14 in CCCWBCA North Region Poll

The Napa Valley College women’s basketball team will take an eight-game winning streak into its Bay Valley Conference opener at the College of Marin-Kentfield on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. The Storm (10-2 overall) also goes into its league season at No. 14 in the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association North Region Poll, which was released on Dec. 16 in a report on the California Community College Athletic Association website, www.cccaasports.org.
The CCCWBCA released its state poll, along with North Region and South Region polls.
Napa Valley won its Storm Surge, a preseason invitational tournament, beating three straight nonconference opponents last week – Porterville College (61-36), College of the Canyons-Santa Clarita (72-53), and Rio Hondo College-Whittier (71-64).
The Storm’s Arianna Aguilar was named as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
The Storm’s Jazmine Fontilla was named to the All-Tournament team.
Napa Valley College women’s basketball wins eighth straight game
Marticia Pollard scored 22 points and the Napa Valley College women’s basketball team won its eighth straight game, beating Foothill College-Los Altos Hills in a nonconference game on Monday, 79-47.
Pollard was also 4-of-4 from the free-throw line for the Storm (10-2 overall).
