As his team made its way to the bench area before Tuesday’s season opener, head coach Rogelio Ochoa took time to talk about the style of play that he was looking for from the Napa Valley College men’s soccer team this fall, the starting lineup, and a nonconference schedule of opponents that will provide a major test for the Storm.
“We have a good group,” said Ochoa. “We can have combinations going in and out. It’s making sure that we're strong all game long, with a variety of ways that we can attack and we can defend.
“We're very confident it’s going to be a big challenge with a tough opponent like Skyline. It's going to be a very challenging game today, a very physical game. They are going to be a tough, physical, fast, tall opponent. So, we have to make sure that we can match that.
“You hit the ground running, and so it should be a good one today. The boys know to keep the ball on the ground as much as we possibly can.”
Napa Valley started out fast, with crisp, sharp play, with an attacking game and solid defense, and with great energy. The Storm also scored the first goal of the game, bringing a ton of excitement on both the field and sideline for Napa Valley.
“We did well. I'm happy with what we're doing and where we are at,” said Ochoa. “The guys pushed, the guys fought, the guys are playing well. The guys had an identity. We're fit, we're strong. We can compete with anyone. And I think today shows that.
“Hopefully, we can get positive results that reflect that as well.”

There’s so much that impresses and excites head coach Rogelio Ochoa about the Napa Valley College men’s soccer team.
There are the numbers, with the Storm going into the season with 25 players on the roster.
There is all the work that the Storm has put in, with players participating in spring and summer programs.
There is a connection and bond that the players have formed, with Ochoa calling the Storm “a very professional group.”
There is also the way that the Storm has looked, particularly in scrimmages, in the last week and a half to start the 2025 fall season.
“They're hard working. They're very connected. You can tell they're extremely focused when we're doing film, extremely focused when we're on the field,” Ochoa said on Friday.
“They understand there's a task at hand. You can sense it. You can feel it. It's pretty cool.”

Arianna Aguilar’s journey back to basketball is about commitment, courage, dedication, passion and a love for the game
By MARTY JAMES martyjames.sports@gmail.com
Arianna Aguilar calls it her journey.
It’s a journey that she has been on since having surgery on March 20 on her right foot.
It’s a journey that is geared toward taking her back to the basketball court and her place on the Napa Valley College women’s team.
It’s a journey all about commitment, courage, dedication, passion and love for the game, and an absolute determination to come back for her sophomore season as one of the Storm’s captains and team leaders.
“Getting through all these injuries, it's just part of my journey,” Aguilar said in July.
This is not the first time that Aguilar has worked to return from injury.

There’s so much that Rose Jamison and Kamilah Tiongco have in common.
They were starters and captains as sophomores on the Napa Valley College women’s basketball team during the 2024-25 season.
They both graduated, earning AA degrees, earlier this year.
