Storm Rallies in Each Set, However Halted By Mustang Attack

Napa, Calif- The Storm took home court looking for a win against the visiting Los Medanos College Mustangs. Despite multiple rallies by the Storm in each set, they were unable to finish off the sets falling 0-3.

In the first set, both teams were trying to find a rhythm.  While each team went on a small rally  mental errors plagued both sides breaking serve and halting any momentum. The Storm were able to capitalize on a string of hitting mistakes by the Mustangs, allowing them to scratch and claw their way back into set one. After tying the set at 22, the mustang setter was able to find her outside and middle hitters to finish set one.

In set two, it was much of the same as in set one. The Mustangs were able to rack up early points on the Storms serve receive. Tough serves by the Mustangs placed pressure on the Storm passers to get a clean ball to the setter for a good swing for the hitters. It wasn't until setter Cassidy Schweizer took it upon herself to rally her team. Facing a 1-6 deficit Schweizer show cased difficult serves putting the storm up 10-6 . That slim lead was immediately taken back by the Mustangs by a kill from middle hitter Boone swaying some momentum. The Storm front line battled during each Mustang swing, getting as many touches as they could for the back-row passers to make a clean dig. As with set one, the Storm was able to reach 22 points but could not finish the set.

In set three, the Mustangs hitters continued to find seams and swing through the Storm block. The Storm had difficulty breaking the Mustang and could not scratch their way back into the set like they did in the first two. Mustangs were in control and the Storm lost the set 17-25.

Coach Hadley "They fought hard and played the best I've seen so far this season. In the end it was a tight match and on a different day we could have beaten that team. Even though we didn't win I told them they should be proud of how they played, and of how far they've come in such a short period of time. Now I think they're anxious to get in the gym and are willing to do whatever it takes to beat them next time."

Some game highs were Schweizer with  a .400 hitting percentage,  and four service aces. While Alexia Stewart and Maryanna Reyes contributed with four kills.

The Storms next game is Friday 9/21/18 at Alemeda College at 6:00 pm.
