NVC baseball loses first game of BVC series, 10-7 to Laney College

Jorge Lopez-Rios had three hits and Owen Nelson and Forrest Kistner each had two hits for the Napa Valley College baseball team, but the Storm lost to Laney College-Oakland, 10-7, in the first game of a Bay Valley Conference series on Tuesday.

Lopez-Rios was 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and scored a run.

Nelson was 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run.

Kistner was 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Napa Valley (9-23 overall, 8-8 Bay Valley Conference) was ahead early in the game, 5-1 in the first inning.

But Laney College came back, scoring seven runs in the second inning to take an 8-6 lead.

Laney scored a run in both the eighth and ninth innings.

Napa Valley scored one run in the ninth inning.

The Storm had 10 hits overall, left nine runners on base, and had one error.

Napa Valley had a two-game winning streak end.

Also, for the Storm, it was:

Vincent Lencioni, 1-for-3; Raisean Avila-Dorsey, 1-for-4, RBI, two runs scored; Austin Renaud, 1-for-3, RBI; Peyton McGowen, run scored, stolen base; Cole Van Stone, run scored; William Tokar, run scored.

Napa Valley struck out nine times against Laney pitching.

Samuel Anderson started the game for Napa Valley and pitched one inning.

Isaiah Franco pitched well in relief, going six innings and allowing four hits, one run (earned), walked three and struck out three, while facing 27 batters.

Khyler Cabebe and Diego Balderas Utrera each threw one inning of relief for the Storm.

NVC's first inning was keyed by Avila-Dorsey's RBI single, Lopez-Rios' RBI double, Kistner's RBI single and an RBI single from Renaud.

Nelson had an RBI single in the second inning.

Lopez-Rios drove in a run with a double in the ninth inning.

Napa Valley and Laney play Game 2 of their three-game Bay Valley Conference series on Thursday, April 18 at Laney starting at 2:30 p.m.

It's back to NVC's Storm Field on Friday, April 19 for the third and final game of the series starting at 1 p.m.
