NVC baseball gets shut out by Gavilan College, 7-0

Napa Valley College was held to one hit as the Storm lost its nonconference baseball game to host Gavilan College, 7-0, in Gilroy on Saturday, Feb. 3.

William Tokar had the Storn's only hit of the day.

Napa Valley (0-3 overall) left five runners on base and struck out nine times.

Christian Hernandez had a stolen base.

Gavilan scored three runs in the first inning, two runs in the fourth inning, one run in the sixth inning and one run in the eighth inning.

Kyle Worden started for the Storm and took the loss after allowing five runs (all earned) and four hits in five innings. Worden faced 21 batters, walked two and struck out three.

Nigel Clay pitched in relief and went three innings, giving up two runs (both earned) and three hits. Clay, who faced 15 batters, walked three and struck out one.

Jacob Godwin hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning for Gavilan.

Ethan Stout started the game for Gavilan and got the win. Stout did not allow a hit, walked four and struck out four in five innings. Stout faced 18 batters.

Joey Stover pitched in relief, going four innings and giving up one hit. Stover, who faced 14 batters, walked two and struck out five.

Napa Valley's nonconference game against Lassen College-Susanville on Feb. 1 was canceled due to weather-related issues.

Napa Valley's next game is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 6 as the Storm travels to Chabot College-Hayward. It's a conference game and starts at 1 p.m.
