Stellar defense to start game keys win for NVC men’s basketball over College of Alameda

The Napa Valley College men's basketball team picked up its second win of the 2023-24 season on Friday, Jan. 26, beating host College of Alameda, 69-56, as four players scored in double figures for the Storm.

Napa Valley (2-19 overall, 2-7 Bay Valley Conference) led for the entire game.

The Storm was also stellar at the free-throw, going 20-of-23.

Chris Farrington led the Storm, scoring 17 points, 14 coming in the second half, and was 6-of-6 at the free-throw line.

Raekwon Bell scored 14 points and was 5-of-6 at the free-throw line. Bell had 10 points in the second half.

Also scoring in double figures was Oliver Aandahl, who had 11 points and was 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Nate Broome scored 10 points and was 4-of-4 at the free-throw line.

Jalen Moore scored five points and Ethan Williams had four points for Napa Valley, which also had five 3-pointers in the game.

Napa Valley was on its game, defensively, allowing only six points in the first 10 minutes of the game.

"It was a great defensive effort in the first half," said coach Steve Ball.

Eight players scored in the game for NVC.

For the season, Napa Valley is averaging 64.2 points per game on 34.9 percent shooting from the field, 25.7 percent from 3-point distance, and 68.7 percent from the free-throw line.

The Storm is also averaging 37.3 rebounds and 11.7 assists per game.

College of Alameda (5-15 overall, 4-4 Bay Valley Conference) had four players score in double figures.

It was Dwayne Ealy, Jr. with 13 points, Donte Henderson with 12 points, Raphael Amante with 11 points, and Paul Diomande with 10 points.

College of Alameda had six 3-pointers and was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Napa Valley continues its season on Wednesday, Jan. 31 with a Bay Valley Conference game at Merritt College-Oakland at 7:30 p.m.
