NVC men’s basketball loses to Skyline College in nonconference game

Raekwon Bell and Nate Broome were the only players to score in double figures for the Napa Valley College men's basketball team as the Storm lost to host Skyline College, 105-54, in a nonconference game Nov. 22 in San Bruno.

Bell scored 12 points and Broome scored 11 points to lead Napa Valley (0-7 overall), which is still looking for its first win of the 2023-24 season.

Napa Valley was behind at halftime, 52-19.

Five players scored in double figures for Skyline (6-1 overall), which plays in the Coast-North Conference and extended its winning streak to six in a row.

Skyline is also No. 27 in the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association's first regular season Top-30 poll, announced on Nov. 21 in a report by the California Community College Athletic Association, at www.cccaasports.org.

Bell scored all of his points – including going 4-of-4 from the free-throw line – in the second half.

Broome was 7-of-7 from the free-throw line in the second half.

Also scoring for Napa Valley was Oliver Aandahl (eight points), Chris Farrington (six points), Jaleel Turner (six points), Jerard Jackson (three points), Jalen Moore (three points), Jamari Taylor (three points), and Ethan Williams (two points).

The Storm was 14-of-15 from the free-throw line.

Skyline was led by Milandev Chatha with 23 points, Achilles Woodson with 18 points, Darrin Lum with 16 points, Brady Carson with 14 points, and Aidan Carleson with 13 points.

Ten players scored for Skyline, which shot 47.4 percent from the field (37-of-78), 53.3 percent from 3-point distance (16-of-30), and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line (15-of-18).

Skyline also had 23 assists and 13 steals.

NVC continues its season on Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Coach Tregs Classic, hosted by College of the Redwoods-Eureka.

The Storm faces Southwestern Oregon on Friday at 5 p.m.

The Storm meets Redwoods on Saturday at 4 p.m.

CCCMBCA Top 30 poll

Twelve Northern California teams, led by No. 1 West Valley-Saratoga, are listed in the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association's first regular season Top-30 poll, announced on Nov. 21 by the California Community College Athletic Association, at www.cccaasports.org.
