NVC men’s soccer rolls to 7-0 win over Merritt

The Napa Valley College men's soccer team continued its outstanding play, beating host Merritt College-Oakland, 7-0, in a Bay Valley Conference match on Nov. 7.

Four first-half goals, followed by three second-half goals, powered the Storm, which is in second place in the conference standings.

Napa Valley (10-7-1 overall, 8-2-1 Bay Valley) will take a two-game winning streak into Thursday's regular-season finale, at home against Yuba College-Marysville, at 3 p.m.

Woodland Community College (11-6-2 overall, 9-1-1 Bay Valley) is in first place.

Israel Luevano, a freshman midfielder, scored two straight goals to lead the Storm in the first half.

Justin Sotelo, a sophomore forward, scored the Storm's first goal of the game and had three assists.

Additional goals were scored by Gedeon Ilunga, a freshman forward; Angelo Dominguez, a sophomore forward; Mario Avina, a freshman midfielder; and Ulisses Cruz, a freshman midfielder. Carl Osifo-Doe got the shutout at goal keeper for the Storm.

Sotelo opened the scoring at the 18-minute mark with a goal. The assist went to Emmanuel Hurtado, a freshman midfielder.

Luevano scored at the 23-minute mark. The assist went to Sotelo.

Luevano scored at the 33-minute mark. The assist was credited to Angelo Vivan, a sophomore forward.

Ilunga scored at the 40-minute mark. The assist went to Dayron Solis, a freshman midfielder.

Dominguez scored at the 65-minute mark of the second half. The assist went to Vivan.

Avina scored at the 70-minute mark. The assist was credited to Sotelo.

Cruz scored at the 80-minute mark. The assist went to Sotelo.
