Storm Win Two During, Weekend Home Stand

On Friday April 12, the Storm took on the 49ers for their final game of their series. In a extra inning thriller, the Storm came back to win 7-6 in the 11th inning  It was a scoreless until Yuba had a break our 4th inning with five runs against Storm starter Umeda. An additional run scored in the 5th Inning for the 49ers leaving the Storm with a six run deficit. The Storm bats came alive in the bottom of the 5th against 49er starter Rodriguez. After a lead-off walk by Leavitt, Davis beat out a bang bang play at first after a bobble by the third baseman. Next up Tyler Peters hit a RBI single with Bogdan and Davis scoring to cut the lead in half 6-3.

The bullpen was stellar in relief of Umeda. Jacob Rossi came into the game in the 6th and pitched 4 shout out innings, allowing only three hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. The Stellar pitching performance gave a boost to the Storm offense to keep it within striking distance. In the 8th inning that rally started with an RBI single by Diaz,  a sacrifice fly to RF by Hunter Leavitt and a RBI Double by Bogdan deep into the center field gap. It was all tied up 6-6 and went into extra innings.

Louis Hall came into the game in the 10th inning despite giving up a walk in the inning he settled down and left the runner stranded. In the 11th Hall continued to stifle the 49er hitters, not allowing the runner to advance past second base.  In the bottom of the 11th Bogdan, who got the game tying RBI, in the 8th, channeled that big moment and hit a walk off RBI Double.

Final stats from the game were for the visiting 49ers, 6 runs on 10 hits and 3 errors. Losing pitcher was Race Geesink. The Storm had 7 runs on 12 hits and 2 errors. Winning Pitcher was Louis Hall.  

On Saturday April 13th it was the final game of the series against Contra Costa College. Despite losing the first two matchups coming off a extra inning win in the previous game kept spirits high. A big 5th inning blew the game wide open for the Storm which went on to hold the lead. The comets jumped to an early lead with a run in the second inning from a fielders choice and a RBI single in the 5th inning by Jamison. The early runs did not worry starting pitcher Stefan Raeth, who knew he could keep them in the ball game. Walks and wild pitches, pass balls were the story of the bottom of the 5th inning. Wallen scored on a passed ball, an RBI double by Espino scored Davis, Carter Pennington hit a sacrifice fly scoring Tyler Peters. Next up to bat was Diaz who hit an RBI Single scoring Espino, a wild pitch then scored Raeth and Bogdan hit an RBI Single to score Diaz. At the end of the 5th inning the Storm held a comfortable 6-1 lead.

In the bottom of the 6th inning Peters hit a line drive HR just over the left field wall to make it 7-1. In the top of the 7th inning the comets were able to chip into the lead scoring two runs, but a big strikeout by Raeth ended the comet rally leaving a few runners stranded putting the score 7-4 Storm lead  Raeth finished his pitching outing with 7 innings, 9 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. In relief of Raeth came in Drew Anderson who had a clean 8th inning, however struggled to locate in the 9th inning with 2 runs scoring to make it a one run game. After a few walks, Alex Nelson came into the 9th with two runners on and got the last two outs with a Strikeout looking to end the game.

The final scoring line from the game were the Storm 7 runs, 6 hits, and 4 errors. While the comets had 6 runs, 12 hits and no errors. The comets double up on hits against the Storm but could not make the best of their opportunities.
